On January 21st, 2011, the first full-colour catalogue on Canadian coins will be published by The Charlton Press. Images of all collector and bullion coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint are illustrated in full colour.

This year the title of the catalogue has been modified, to be more in keeping with the contents. The new title Canadian Coins, Volume Two Collector and Maple Leaf Issues now emphasizes the full scope of the catalogue.

Canadian Coins, Volume Two, 2nd edition, consists of 360 pages, lists over 1,000 coin designs and has over 1,700 colour illustrations. Specifications and complete pricing are given for each issue.

With today?s rapidly changing market in precious metals continually pushing the intrinsic value of coins against their numismatic value it was decided to include the precious metal content of each coin in the specification listing. The gram/troy ounce value is listed for each platinum, palladium, gold and silver coin. In this fast moving metals market the collector by making a simple calculation will know the floor value of their collection.

Canadian Olympic coins form a large segment of Volume Two listings. The Montreal, Calgary, Athens, and Vancouver Olympic coins contribute well over 15% of the designs that comprise the Olympic Series. The coins of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games alone are numbered well over one hundred. Deep pockets would be required to own the complete series as each of the five $2,500 kilo-gold coins alone weigh in at $50,000. A more modest collection would be the 42 varieties of twenty-five cent coins.

Another interesting series for collectors is the National Hockey League (NHL) issues which began in 2005. Currently, this series consists of more than 40 different coins which include 25½, 50½, $1 and $20 issues.

Last year the question was pondered ?would giftware be collectable.? This past year certainly answered that question with a resounding ?yes.? Online auction sites have thousands of offerings for sale.
